METHOD

Our project adopts a participatory development communication approach that involves interacting and engaging with ex-offenders in Singapore to hear their struggles as they reintegrate to society, therefore giving them a voice to share their personal experience 

DATA COLLECTION

PARTICIPANTS

  • Five participants 

  • ​Ex-residents of halfway houses​

    • Three from The Hiding Place​

    • Two from The Ashram

  • All males

  • Mean age: 47.6 years old

  • Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents 

  • Monthly income < S$1,900

  • Recruited via snowball and purposive sampling

DESIGN

  • Semi-structured in-depth interviews

  • Interview questions surrounded key themes that emerged from our research

PROCEDEURES

  • Interviews were conducted at the respective halfway houses that the participants were former residents of

    • The Hiding Place​

    • The Ashram

  • Interviews were recorded with consent, and transcribed 

DATA ANALYSIS

Our data analysis was guided by a grounded theory framework. Through the iterative process of emergent coding, we reviewed the interview transcripts and identified key themes central to the data collected
